12+ Week Studio
30,000+ square feet
This undergraduate capstone studio incorporated two floors of designed space with a typical guest suite plan that would be located on floors 3 through 8 and utilized the metric system. The ground floor consists of Registration and lobby spaces and the second floor showcases a restaurant and bar and lounge space. A location was randomly assigned to each space. Based on the location of Quebec City, Canada, this hotel is unified through the concept of the Maple leaf.
HOSPITALITY DESIGN

The concept for the Samara Hotel is expressed through the interpretation of the Maple Leaf because it is an essential part of the culture of Quebec City, Canada. The horizontal band of wood is reminiscent of the branches of a maple tree.

The registration area gives the user its first indication of the colors and materials used throughout the hotel. The main colors throughout the space are red, green, brown, grey and black which help to unify the space.

The hotel lobby and waiting area design incorporates elements of the maple leaf in the artwork, natural materials and linear emphasis used throughout the space.

The combination of materials used in the lobby waiting area provides a clearly defined design space. The incorporation of large graphic panels unifies the space and links the hotel user with the outdoor environment while inside.

Ember is a restaurant that relies on color branding. The color green was chosen as the complimentary counterpart because this space is adjacent to the lounge and bar (which is branded with the color red). The concept of the Maple Leaf can be seen through the use of organic materials in both content and in color and through the use of green.

Synthesis bar and lounge is a space that is branded by the color red. One of the design elements used throughout the entire hotel design solution is a series of panels which can be seen in this image. Part of this hotel branding can be seen through the use of black and grey as a neutral backdrop that allows red to be showcased and highlighted.
